Right, now that things have gotten a bit more quiet it’s time to get back to some serious chocolate development!
The water based chocolates went down really well at the gallery opening so I reckon it’s time to get seriously inventive with what I can make ganache with. Why is it that everyone uses cream or butter when you can have so much success with other things? Well, I think it’s high time we (as a chocolate loving collective) had a good hard look at those other “things” and come up with some sort of forward thinking chocolate revolution!
Water’s pretty good… why not fruit juice? Why not different sorts of mineral water? Why not any drink at all? Why not do one from smoothies?
I’m guessing standard thinking is that the extra fats added gives it a smoother consistency and maybe a better melt and possibly more shelf life – I’m not sure about that, I’ll have to check it out first – but it seems really strange that no one else is doing it at all. I’m just wondering slightly whether this really is my novel idea (which I’m just putting all over the web for anyone to read and thereby shooting myself in the foot) or whether some one else has tried this and found out that actually trying to make any of this stuff is impossible or results in some sort of catastrophic chocolate explosion, but hey, even if it does turn out horribly wrong I’ve got to give it a try!
There are so many beautiful liquids (whoah does that sound wrong) out there that just need mixing with chocolate to see what happens. I can’t imagine that the chocolate community is so closed minded that they just ignore everything that’s not a dairy product, so probably there’s some reason for it, but I can’t really find it when I look around. I’m sure as sure can be that it’s seriously tasty so clearly that’s not the problem. So yeah, starting from tomorrow I’m going to start up a chocolate investigation… now that sounds cool.
Yaaay, some awesome news today!
Everything’s been going fairly well with the chocolate business apart from actually getting hold of a shop. I’m not sure what news I posted here last, but more or less what’s happened is that we made an offer about a month or so ago and the guy went back to Pakistan (as you do) to think it over and we’ve had no news from him since.
Well, he’s back in the country and although he’s rejected it, he’s made a counter offer so it shows he’s reasonably keen to move. Even better was that Faisal gave us a call right after he got the news, which does plenty to restore my confidence in his dudely powers.
So, starting from now suddenly there’s somewhere to go with the negotiations and it really looks like the shop will actually be there by September!
